I love the way they fit into priority mail boxes. That is cool!

Re: Widener's 9mm Cast Bullets
This line struck me as a little funny...
92% lead, 6% antimony, 2% lead. Triple lubed, sized .356" 92% lead, and 2% lead? hehe, am I missing something obvious? Wouldnt that just be "94% lead" Sorry, not a huge shooter so if the joke is on me somehow, have fun with the flame! I still laughed. |
Re: Widener's 9mm Cast Bullets
Prolly meant tin.

Re: Widener's 9mm Cast Bullets
Lead cast bullets do not do well in weapons with polygonal rifling.
Glock, CZ, and I think Springfield to name a few.... Inaccurate, and causes lots of fouling. (learned this the hard way) |
Re: Widener's 9mm Cast Bullets
Thanks TechGuy -- I thought there were issues, I'll pass... I would like to get about 2K 124gr FMJ's stocked up. Anyone know of any deals?

http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct...tnumber=402096 From the reviews, people claim these are the most consistently sized bullets. I loaded up on the .40 version of these a while back in a couple different weights but haven't loaded any yet. Pretty good price for hollow points. I was looking to stock up on FMJ too until I saw the price on these and then decided to go for JHP. |

Re: Widener's 9mm Cast Bullets
I shoot hard lead all the time in pistols with very little/no leading.....even magnum loads in 357/44......I have no experience in Glocks......tons of rounds through 45ACP, 9mm, 38spl, 32S&WL/H&R Mag......no leading issues.
92% lead, 6% antimony, 2% tin.....these are all the eutetic points for these alloys....makes the hardest possible lead.....greater than 5X as hard as pure lead. A lot of folks have lead issues by using soft lead. I've alloyed probably no less than 4 or 5 tons of lead in the past 20 years and have cast hundreds of thousands of bullets. I only shoot lead whenever possible. Jacketed ammo will wear out a bore at least 10X as fast as lead. I've never seen a 22LR with a shot out bore. I have a target pistol with over 100,000 rounds through it. Bore looks like new. Hard Lead and good lube is the only way to go in my experience.....and the reloading cost is half of jacketed. BTW Plated = Lead.... Also in NRA Conventional Pistol "Bulleye" ....like they shoot at the national pistol championship in Camp Perry Ohio every year.....we shoot our 45ACP out to 50 yards....and lead is more accurate than jacketed.....we aslo have to shoot FMJ in the service pistol "Hardball" matches......lead beats FMJ for accuracy. |
Re: Widener's 9mm Cast Bullets
I tried lead in my cz's and was amazed at the amount of leading in the grooves.
You could actually see it when you sighted down the barrel. This was after approx 400 shots. Ruprick: Interesting, do your pistols have polygonal rifling? |

No, only conventional rifling....lots of S&W revolvers....1911 45ACPs.....Walther GSP 32S&WL target pistols. Never an issue in a Sig P226 or Beretta 92F either. Like I said, just bought a bunck of Glocks but only shot some FMJ so far....will for sure be trying lead this summer. Was you lead really hard? With very low power, low velocity ....like my 32SWL.....even soft lead will not lead the bore...but we are talking 700 FPS and under 12,000 PSI. |

They were cheapo reloads from a local gunshop. I have no issue with lead on non-polygonal barrels. Punch paper with the cheapest you can get. |
Re: Widener's 9mm Cast Bullets
What about these? (back order OK, due in on 05/25) $90 per 1K.
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...ber=1050308877 Berry's sounds good too, but 4-6 weeks, are they worth it. This is for future use however, so I could wait. Free shipping on 1K at $76.06... Hummmm! http://www.berrysmfg.com/product.asp...&pp=8&sb=0&p=0 Thanks for the replies...:36_1_32v: |

Re: Widener's 9mm Cast Bullets
I realize they are both plated. I am asking for the personal opinions of others here. These will be used for personal target practice if the price of ammo does not come down to more reasonable levels. I just purchased 9mm dies and have powder, primers and brass, but have never reloaded 9mm due to the relatively low cost of loaded 9mm ammo.

I've fired lots & lots of HARD lead bullets in Glock .45ACP & .40S&W with no problems re: barrel fouling or crappy accuracy. I keep my loads reasonable (not trying to get a blown up pistol with ++P++ rhino-stopping .40S&W reloads). Leading has never been an issue. After a trip to the range, there's just a hint of crud (powder, lead, lube) in some of the grooves, but it brushes right out with a little cleaner. |
Re: Widener's 9mm Cast Bullets
I use hard cast lead bullets in all of my revolvers. The bigger the bore, the better it works. (Although .32 Magnum isn't bad.) On the auto side, I've tried them but .45 ACP is the only one I regular load with lead. I've got a Glock 17 9mm and I tried 122 grain hard cast bullets in it years and years ago. I didn't have any leading problems or anything but they didn't shoot anything you could call "groups" out of that gun. I've always been able to shoot that gun well. 1.5-2" groups off a bench at 25 yards. But the lead was more like 4-5". That's way excessive. Sometimes you just have to accept some loads don't go in some guns!

BTT
I was hoping for an answer to my issue. I need to figure out how to use all this pure lead! Gregg |
